Our Quest to Please God
Isaiah 55:8, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord."
In our quest to please God, we must become comfortable with the fact that our timing is not God’s timing. His ways are not our ways and our thoughts are not His thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8)
When we delve into Psalm 73, we are acquainted with the author of this Psalm, Asaph. In I Chronicles 16:1-7, we find that David assigned Asaph the position of Chief Worshipper. His main job was to give God thanks. When we read Psalm 73:1, Asaph is fulfilling his job requirements. However starting in verse 2 and continuing to verse 16, Asaph seems to have forgotten his assignment. He admits he is envious of the FOOLISH, and he is about to stumble because of the prosperity of the WICKED! Asaph, Asaph what happened to your praise?
Many of us can identify with Asaph. We start off praising God but when things don't look like we think they should, our feet well nigh slip. Yes, the wicked may be prospering and the unjust seem to have no stopping point. To get beyond those limitations we need a shifting of our minds. We need to recalibrate, refocus.
When we go into the sanctuary of God, we UNDERSTAND! We may live in a shack on earth but we have a mansion waiting for us in Heaven. Our bodies may be wracked with pain on earth, but in Heaven there is no sickness. Please don’t misunderstand me, I am well aware these thoughts of Heaven oft times become so veiled, that the praises of God are no longer audible sounds out of our spirit. But we must go into the sanctuary that we might be renewed, revived, reinvigorated so that we can repeat the verses of
Psalm 73:21-28, "Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins. So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was a beast before thee. Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in Heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever. For lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works." (KJV)
